My friends and I wanted to grab some comfort, noodle soup as it was storming early morning before we headed back to San Diego. We were looking for restaurants to go to but MANY were closed due to the storm (unlucky), but luckily this restaurant was still open regardless of rain or shine! It's located in a random area next to a nail salon and karate studio on Westminster Ave in Garden Grove. There's two parking lots: one in the front with not many stalls (was filled with cars when we arrived) and one hidden in the back with more stalls. Walking in, we were hit with a wave of Vietnamese chatter. Just that alone indicates this was the place to be with all the Vietnamese families early in the morning. This restaurant isn't the typical Vietnamese restaurants with the usual dishes that everyone gets. They have a variety of noodle soups outside of pho and BBH and also offer hot pots and family rice packages for really good prices. I got their House Special Noodle Soup (Hu Tieu Nam Vang) as they're know for their hu tieu at this restaurant. The broth was super rich and full of meat and seafood flavors which I couldn't get enough of! Even for a small bowl, I had a ton of proteins. YUM. The only small downside (but not really a downside) was that it had quite a bit of MSG. I kept drinking cups of water as I ate. But ugh, it still sooo good. Two of my friends go their Pho Bo. The pho broth was VERY rich and definitely didn't have that "clean, clear" flavor which made it very authentic and delicious! Absolutely loved that sip I got from my friends. It would be tough having to choose between these two broths the next time I visit. Overall, a hidden gem for a menu that is outside the usual Vietnamese restaurants we're all used to. Great prices and delicious food! Definitely want to come back again in the future for more of the hu tieu or their other noodle soup dishes! P.S. The restaurant takes credit cards but there is either a $0.50 or $1 extra charge for using a card.
